Imece

Imece – Joint Action

Imece is an old Turkish solidarity system which has been applied for centuries in the countryside. It is an example of social solidarity and sensibility. In literature, imece is explained as: mutual aid, collective work, working together for the community or for one of its members, like a bee, in solidarity. In daily life, “imece” refers to coming together to help an individual or a community, finishing the work as quickly and cheerfully as possible like a festival.

Imece is a way of helping each other, and further than that it is the system of moving together for a common good, a way of social responsibility. Considering the current problems of our world, such as poverty, epidemic diseases, pollution, climate change, corruption, conflicts and terror; the need for joint action to take comprehensive steps to promote solutions for these problems is inevitable. It is impossible for an individual, a group, or a nation to deal with all those problems. To secure our future, all nations; moreover, all individuals need to feel the responsibility and take concrete steps in a collective way. Thus the main theme of the 5th World Youth Congress Turkiye 2010 is chosen as Imece to stress the need and urgency of joint action.

Measurement & Evaluation of Youth-Led Development

To show the decision makers a new route to invest about development, World Youth Congress promotes Youth-Led Development since its first meeting. In fact, as the concept of YLD is relatively new and still evolving. In this congress, we will try to contribute to the conceptualization, methodology and measurement of YLD projects through the experiences of the delegates and young people from all around the world, who work in the field. Through the contributions of those practices and the World Bank Institute, together we will work on Measurement & Evaluation of Youth Led Development and prepare a toolkit at the end of the congress.

Post-MDGs International Development Agenda

The deadline to achieve the Millennium Development Goals is approaching. There is only five years until the 2015. Despite the frustrating fact that the world is far away from reaching those targets after 10 years, youth have never given up and continued their efforts to promote solutions to the problems mentioned in the targets. The evidence is in the congress; each world youth congress is hosting many of those ambitious young people. In this congress some of those young people will come together and start discussing Post-MDGs International Development Agenda; what worked well in the MDG initiative? What worked less well? What should be different in the new development agenda? And, importantly, what should be the role of young people in the new Post-MDG agenda?

Post-Kyoto/Post-COP15 Climate Change Agenda

The term of Kyoto Agreement is ending in 2012 and the Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen ended without bringing definition to Post-Kyoto Climate Change Regime. This led frustrations all around the world. The leaders of the world clearly could not constitute a single voice against the fight with climate change. They might not have succeeded but, at the 5th WYC, its our turn to express our opinions and create suggestions for the Post-Kyoto Climate Change Agenda.
